My name is Maureen and I live in the beautiful Pacific Northwest on the outskirts of Portland, Oregon.
From the time I picked up my first Jane Austen novel as a teenager I’ve been drawn to history. Literature opened a door for me to understand how people once lived. To me, history is a fascinating continuum.
My other passion in life is writing. I have degrees in English and journalism, and have worn many hats as a writer— newspaper reporter, magazine feature writer, book reviewer and editor, to name a few. I’ve also written several novels, most of which have a historical component. No surprise there!
But I’m still a history geek . I’m not a scholar but I love research. I especially like to look for connections between the past and the present. I get what William Faulkner meant when he wrote “The past is never dead. It’s not even past.”
Before I go, I’d better introduce my feline writing partner, Zelda. She’s the only member of my household besides me who agreed to have her photo posted here.
You can usually find Zelda sleeping in her spot by the window next to my computer, dreaming about ancient Egypt when her ancestors were revered and depicted as gods and goddesses.
I hope you’ll join Zelda and me in our travels through time. We promise to make it interesting.
